Young Girl Hit by Car in Virginia Beach Suffered Serious Injuries
By Jim Lewis, Personal Injury Attorney in Virginia Beach
It’s terrible anytime someone gets injured in a car accident, but the situation is even worse when the innocent victim is a young child.
Take, for instance, the recent accident that occurred on Sandbridge Road involving an 8-year-old girl. The young girl arrived with her father at Red Mill Elementary School for soccer practice. While her father was getting a second child out of their vehicle, the girl began to cross the street on her own. Reports indicate she looked both ways and began to cross when a car hit her, according to the Virginian-Pilot.
The girl was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She has been stabilized but remains in critical condition.
Many questions remain unanswered about this Virginia Beach crossing accident. For example, was the at-fault driver not looking, or were they distracted in some way? The Pilot article mentions that witnesses on the other side of the street yelled for the girl to stop, so why did the driver fail to slow down when there was a young girl contemplating crossing the street? Police continue to investigate this terrible accident, so maybe they will be able to get some answers.
My heart goes out to the family, especially the father who was at the scene with his daughter. As a father, I don’t know what I would do if one of my children was seriously injured in a sudden accident. It is an experience I wish no parent had to suffer through.
